Mortgage and Rental Assistance for New Mexicans impacted by COVID-19.

On Monday, November 2, the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA) will begin accepting applications for the new COVID-19 Housing Cost Assistance Program. The program will provide qualifying New Mexicans with as much as $1,500 per month for up to three months to pay back rent or mortgage payments and other housing costs.
MFA is asking that you help get the word out about this crucial assistance. Please send the printable informational flyer, which is linked here in English and Spanish, to everyone on your mailing list. The flyers are also on MFA’s website.
 
Applications will be accepted from 8AM Monday, November 2 through 5PM Friday, November 13 only. The link to the electronic application will be live on MFA’s website on November 2.
 
Applications will be ranked based on household income level or tribal land residency and the date and time the application was received. Please encourage your contacts to start gathering the required supporting documents immediately so they can submit their application in a timely manner. A list of acceptable documents can be found on the MFA website.
 
The COVID-19 Housing Cost Assistance Program is available to New Mexico households earning 80 percent or less of the median income in their area, adjusted for family size. In order to qualify, applicants must prove that they have suffered a financial hardship that is directly related to the COVID-19 health crisis and documentation of delinquency.

CARES Act – Emergency Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program “ERMAP.”
 
Starting Wednesday, October 14, 2020, the Santa Fe County Housing Authority is accepting applications for the ERMAP.
 
This program has been created to provide emergency housing assistance grants to qualifying households who: 1) reside in Santa Fe County; 2) have had an adult household member who has lost a job, been furloughed or had a reduction in working hours on or after March 1, 2020; 3) are currently behind on their rent or mortgage payments; and 4) currently have a gross monthly income that falls below 80% of the area median income for Santa Fe County for rental assistance and 100% of the area median income for Santa Fe County for mortgage assistance.
 
If an applicant qualifies for the grant, they can receive up to $7,500 in grant assistance to pay for their delinquent mortgage payments. Grant payments will be provided directly to the mortgage company on the grantee’s behalf. This funding can also be used to pay for future mortgage payments, if the grantee continues to demonstrate a need for assistance, meaning their housing expenditure ratio is greater than 33%.

All applications for assistance can be submitted via email. For rental assistance please submit your application packet to dbradley@santafecountynm.gov. For mortgage assistance please submit your application packet to jjbarela@santafecountynm.gov. Application packets can also be hand delivered to the Santa Fe County Housing Authority administrative offices, which are located at 52 Camino de Jacobo Santa Fe, NM 87507. Hand delivered applications can be placed in either of the drop boxes at this location.
